Crossing The Threshold into Faerieworlds

Faerieworlds: The Experience from Unreal Classy on Vimeo.

Thanks to Kristen Nedopak of http://outta-this-world.com for this video.

It wasn’t until we attended an incredible music and art festival in Eugene, Oregon last October, that I finally understood one aspect of the Hero’s Journey.  Part of the reward of completing the journey is the ability to cross back and forth freely between two worlds.  I had been thinking of this as merely a metaphorical or spiritual concept.  However, after spending three inspiring days with 15,000 good and bad faeries I think I get it now.    On a physical level I could have gone to a festival like Faerieworlds anytime I wanted; just paid the admission fee and gone.  I would have enjoyed the music, ate some food I shouldn’t have, and probably even bought a medieval long-sword or leather gloves, just because they were cool looking.  But making Mythic Journeys taught me to look deeper into the experience and pull every drop of richness from the world.

As I was leaving the festival in a lump-like state of inspired exhaustion, the true gift of the reward became clear. I now have the ability to cross that threshold into this world of costumed faeries and share in the joy of those in attendance.  The experience doesn’t really come to life until you connect to the beings around you and let their passions inspire you.  That was the true gift.  And now I can live in this world and the other worlds, finding the spirit in all of them.

With mythic enthusiasm,
Steve
